Shortly after the first specialized periodical for pregnancy and motherhood in Bulgaria - 9 Months Magazine - celebrated its 18th anniversary, its team launched a new initiative. It is called Baby of the City and its mission is to draw public attention to the demographic problem to stimulate the birth rate at regional level.

The start of the new project will be in Varna on 15 August. The first child born on the date of a city’s festival will be given the title Baby of the City. The campaign will be held every year in 9 district cities - Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Ruse, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Blagoevgrad, Veliko Tarnovo.

The official part of the initiative will begin with a blessing ceremony of the newborn by the mayor, who will bestow a statuette and gifts in the maternity ward of the hospital where the Baby of Varna cried for the first time. The name of the baby and what happened at the blessing ceremony will be announced during the festive program of the city. A box for wishes to the Baby of the City will be set in the main street and the partners of 9 Months Magazine in the campaign will draw the wishes from the box and give awards to those who wrote them.
