A combination of exotics and traditions just before St. Nicholas’ Day in Mall Varna

The Fifth National Culinary Exhibition Varna 2015 turned into a real feast for the senses.  Nine teams competed on Friday evening for the seafood MasterChef title. As tradition dictates on St. Nicholas’ Day, the culinary competition put a focus on seafood dishes and seafood gourmet foods and the meals presented by the chefs to the jury and the hundreds of visitors at The Market of Mall Varna were worthy competitors to the meals offered by the finest gourmet restaurants.

The culinary rivalry was really big. The works of the competitors combined traditional and exotic tastes. Their “arsenal” for the competition included sea bass and salmon, octopus and squid, Rapana sea snails, prawns and, of course, stuffed carp for St. Nicholas’ Day. All teams unleashed their imagination not only in the selection and combination of fish and seafood gourmet dishes, but also in the design of the dishes and the arrangement of their stalls and also the presentation of the specialties to the jury and the public.
